New friends and a contest!

This is a testimony to the law of attraction! Yesterday I was looking through the Meyer Hatchery catalog and dreaming of ducks when someone popped up on freecycle giving away a pair of ducks! So I nabbed them up and brought them home. It's a boy and a girl (eee ducklings??). The girl was attacked when younger and has a pretty gimpy leg but seems to get around and the boy looks after her. I gave them the dog house and free run of the sheep pen for now. Unfortunately they won't be able to truly free range with that bad leg but the sheep pen is pretty big for just two ducks.

On to the contest! I'm bamong the boy Ping after my favorite childhood book. Please leave suggestions for the girls name in the comments below, or tweet it And leave a link in the comments. Winner will achieve the glory of naming my duck, and a handmade needle felted duck to play with or display as you see fit. Name will be chosen at midnight the 31st.
Go!

Sheep says, "WTF is that?"

  4. You could name her Lotus :: As in the Golden Lotus - the ancient Chinese practice of binding womans feet for beauty. Because she has the gimpy leg & I think Lotus is a very beautiful name, not to dwell on her misfortune or anything. I'm happy they found a good home! :)

  5. Dude, I was totally going to say Pong also! But since it's taken, you could just name it after me so I can win the prize. Tracee with an unusual spelling would be nice for a duck, hey? And I'd be so honored, nothing's ever been named after me before. You could even use my nick name, Queen Bee. Yeah, I like that even better than Pong or Tracee. Ping and Queen Bee! :)

  6. Ilene, or Eileen, for obvious reasons. Can we submit more than once? If not, forget the previous entry.

  7. I think her name is Pickle.

Or for a more cutesy name- Pickles.

Pickle is fun to say. Ping & Pickle make a cute couple- and she already found herself in a pickle with that bum leg!

    It's practically perfect! :)

  9. This is Huffleduck. I said Jessie on Twitter, but I just had an even better idea...Jemima Puddleduck, after the Beatrix Potter book. Fits with the theme of naming the boy Ping (and I loved that book too!)
